A-Z Challenge-Q = Quest

Have I mentioned lately that I have super, smart, Followers? Well, my favorite, recovering slob nailed it, this time. If you haven’t checked out her site, you should

PurpleSlobinrecovery20.design.blog.

, I believe. She can correct me in the comments, if I’m wrong.

Anyway, onto our Christmas Quest:

Have you ever been on the Quest to find the perfect gift? Maybe, you want to get something unique, that noone including the recipient would think of, or maybe it’s something specific they asked for.

When I was young, I believe it was the Cabbage Patch Doll. My parents had to go to store after store discovering they were sold out before finally finding one. This was before the internet and cell phones… when people simply waited in lines at stores hoping the popular toy was in stock.

Or, even going to the mall with friends at Christmas time was a Quest. You had your list of people and possible ideas, but there was a time frame and budget to get it all done.

And tomorrow is R. It might be a little advice to help you out. I’ll give you a hint. It’s not Rudolph! Lol

A-Z Challenge-P = Party

My topic is Christmas since it’s my favorite Holiday.  But, first, an update:

Today marks a week since I lost my beautiful Puma due to Liver Failure.  She was 16.

She was my beautiful, Bengal.  Even though, I have had to do this with now 7 animals, I am having a hard time.  Why is it we can let animals go; when it’s illegal for humans?  Yes, Puma was suffering a bit, but if you’re elderly relative was suffering, you can’t legally make that decision.  And on this depressing note, let’s get on with our topic of Christmas Parties:

Yeah, Super bad segway.  Anyway…

I have been to a few Parties at Christmas.  The work Parties which usually has dinner, dancing and raffle prizes, the church Parties for children and adults, and and of course the family and friends gatherings which are technically, Parties.

I remember the day after attending a work Party, I was in the elevator with a hangover and some girls were talking, loudly.  I was like “Shhh” and they go, “Oh my God, you went to the Party?”. I’m like, “Yes, and now I have a headache.”. Then they go, “Wow, that’s so cool, we thought…”.  I go, “What? That I’m a total Prude and never drink?”. and they go, “Well, Yeah.”.  That was over 20 years ago, but, still…. I wonder if that is still the attitude of most people when it comes to fitting in…but, I digress. I love to dress up for Parties. I don’t care if everyone else wears jeans. A Party is a celebration.. especially at Christmas. Most Parties are enjoyable, but, rarely without drama.

Please share about a Party you attended. It could be a strange reaction like mine, a drama moment, or just about some of the foods you ate. What do you consider a Party?

Tomorrow is Q, and surprisingly, I think I know where I am going with it. Any guesses?

A-Z Challenge-O = Obligation

Today’s post is about one of the negative aspects or views of Christmas.

A lot of people look at Christmas time as an Obligation. I have to get together with family, put up the tree, cook Christmas dinner, buy presents for those people I don’t talk to all year, etc.. But, Christmas should not be seen as such.

In the Bible, it says, “God loves a cheerful giver.” and I believe Christmas should be celebrated, cheerfully. If it doesn’t bring you joy, don’t do it!

You should not feel Obligated to share the Holiday with those you don’t want to, and definitely don’t spend money on those you don’t care about. If someone gives you a gift, accept it, graciously, and move on.

Christmas isn’t about putting up the tree or decorating the house; unless that’s something you enjoy. Remember, the real meaning of Christmas and don’t let all the other stuff become an Obligation.

A-Z Challenge-N = The North Pole

We’ve all heard that Santa lives at The North Pole, but, does he?

The North Pole is the northernmost part of the earth lying diametrically opposite The South Pole. There is no land, there. It’s all ice floating at the top of the Arctic Ocean. Animals live there, though; including Polar Bears, Seal, Walrus, Arctic Fox and Reindeer!

The closest City to The North Pole is Logyearbyn/Svalbard, Norway which is halfway between Norway and The North Pole. It is an ancient, mining city and the administrative capital of the archipelago and it’s dedicated to research, education and tourism. It has 2,000 inhabitants with 50 nationalities. There are two main streets, hotels, sports stores and a supermarket. There are also 3,000 Polar Bear so there is high risk for attack. This area is one of the most protected territories in the world, and almost everybody owns a snowmobile.

There is another North Pole, city in Alaska. This one has Christmas year round. Christmas decorations, a store called Santa’s House, streets with names of Kris Kringle Drive and Mistletoe Lane. Nearby is the Chen Lake Recreation Area with beaches, nature trails and picnic areas.

So, I’m thinking, Santa may actually live at The North Pole or at least somewhere near it, but, not the actual one, we know.

Although, I’ll bet that’s where the reindeer stay during the off season; especially Rudolph, as The North Pole experiences total darkness from October to March.

A-Z Challenge-M = Magic

There is a Magic in the air at Christmas! I can feel it.

Maybe it’s the sense of hope, laughter, excitement and wonder. Maybe, it’s a child experiencing their first Christmas, a lover proposing, friends and relatives visiting from afar, receiving or giving that perfect gift, experiencing your first snowfall, or maybe it’s as simple as being off work for the holiday and not having to get out of your pajamas. Whatever it is, I have experienced it and I experience it, in different ways every year at Christmas time.

I hope that after you read this challenge, you will experience the Magic of Christmas, and maybe look at it, in a way you never have, before.

Tomorrow is N,and I was thinking; we might take a trip to a place that starts with that letter. I’m told it’s pretty cold there, so pack some warm clothing…and I’ll see you, then.

A-Z Challenge-K = Kindness

Before I get into this, I want to check in. A few tears and lots of sleep, today. The hardest part is watching my other cats look for Puma. I wish I could explain, especially to Monkey, why her sister isn’t coming bàck. They were both close.

Puma and Monkey. Puma introduced Monkey to the wall heater.

The family dynamic has changed and it’s sad. I just picture God welcoming Puma into Heaven where she isn’t suffering anymore.

Thank you all for the condolences.

Now, onto K and Kindness:

Kindness should happen every day, but I’ve noticed; around Christmas time, people get extra Kind. The atmosphere and the lights help to enhance the good mood of the season and even acknowledging someone with the greeting of “Merry Christmas” can lift ones mood. … Never mind the whole Happy Holidays thing, this is my challenge blog and it’s about Christmas!… People tend to give to charities and even strangers during the season, when they rarely do the rest of the year. Even church offerings increase from those that only attend maybe twice a year. I experience more laughing, smiling and friendly people at Christmas time, which is part of the reason it’s my favorite Holiday.

A-Z Challenge-J = Jesus & Joy

This one might be short. Not really in the mood, at present..but..here we go:

You’ve probably all seen the signs that say “Jesus Is The Reason For The Season”. That’s because Christmas to Christians is the celebration of Jesus birth. Since Jesus grew and died for us, we celebrate it! Joy can relate to that and to the excitement, fun and celebrations throughout the season.

Use Your Imagination

I think a key requirement of believing in the non-biblical aspects of Christmas such as Elves, Talking Snowmen and even Santa Clause is having a good Imagination.

Who was it that ruined or tried to ruin your belief in Santa Clause by telling you he isn’t real?…. Before you go blaming me, I am confirming or denying nothing! I refuse to ruin anyone’s beliefs…. Truthfully, I don’t remember when or how I was told or gained knowledge. I know at some point Santa’s presents stopped coming. But, that doesn’t necessarily mean he isn’t real.

Maybe he focuses more on the younger set because they hang onto their Imaginations a little bit longer.

A-Z Challenge-H = Holly

I was going to add the word, Holiday, but we all know it’s my favorite Holiday which is why I am covering it for this challenge.

So, let’s learn a bit about Holly:

While Holly is a very, pretty plant and nice to decorate with, it also has a history of religious meaning.

In Scandinavia, Holly is known as Christ’s Thorn and some Christians believe the prickly leaves of Holly represent the Crown Of Thorns placed on the head of Jesus during the crucifixion and the berries represent the drops of blood caused by those thorns. An interesting way to think about Holly, next time you decorate.

And tomorrow is I. Not quite sure just where that will take me. Could be personal or might just be an cold subject.

A-Z Challenge-G = Gifts

The first gifts were given by the Wise Men to the baby Jesus of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh per Christian beliefs.

I think the reason we give to each other is to show our love for others the same way the Wise Men celebrated Jesus Birth. There are no physical Gifts we can give to Jesus Christ so we must give to those close to us.

But, must we? Gifts should be given freely and with an open heart. Not a “Oh, since he got me something, I Have to get him something.”. Gifts should not be obligatory nor should you expect to receive. In my opinion, Gifting should be done with care based on what the person would really appreciate. If you try for a gag Gift, be sure you know their sense of humor. I have shared before that I am a Gifter. I keep lists of what to who and when so as not to repeat from one year to the next.
