Missed the Friends Reunion because I don’t have HBO Max. Even signed up for Hulu after reading that you could get HBO Max as part of their free trial; but alas, you can’t. So, now I have to wait for it to be shown on YouTube.
Watched the Happy Days Reunion on YouTube that I missed, last year. Actually, I only missed it then because I wasn’t going to donate to the Democratic Party in order to watch it, but, I digress. It was okay. Brought back some good memories.
That was when shows were wholesome and cool, plus, most had life lessons. I can’t stand a lot of the crap shows today. Most of the “Reality” shows really aren’t “Reality”.. which is just false advertising.
Maybe that’s one reason I like True Crime. You can’t make that stuff up.
Yeah, it’s Saturday and going down with a Migraine. It’s 4:15. Need to be up and healthy tomorrow when my house gets painted and hopefully finished.
Was thinking of how people decorate their places and how people are into so many different things. I just find it interesting.
My BFF is into Brenden Fraser and my other friend is into Pacman. I, myself, am into Cat stuff but also something else, at present. I ordered something really cool which should arrive by tomorrow so will definitely post a picture.
My BFF finally received the last part of her Birthday gift, yesterday. The first idea never showed up so I ordered something else and it still came late. But, it finally arrived and she loves it. It’s an Achmed t-shirt from Jeff Dunham, ‘Minding The Monsters’. She didn’t remember telling me to get shirts a size smaller so she can use it for weight loss motivation. Another friend got a new job! I am extremely happy for both of them. I live vicariously through my friends.
Onto The Question:
If you could know how you were going to die or when.. Would you want to? My answer is No! If I knew I was going to get shot by a gun, I would freak out every time I saw someone carry one. And, if I knew the exact day, I would be a basket case, the day before.
As Christians, we look forward to meeting Jesus, but are we really ready to go any time? I mean, Yes, I want to meet Jesus, yet, I also want to stick around longer.. watch my cats grow up, maybe meet someone and marry again, go back to teaching the church children, move into a better place, etc…
My Bible Study Group all agreed they do Not want to know the date or even how. What about you?
The Reddit Secret Santa Exchanges are interesting because some people spend the minimum or a bit less, others go way overboard, others go for a happy medium. The minimum minus tax should be $20. There is no maximum. Plus, the gift is based on a list of your person’s likes and dislikes.
I was actually surprised on what I received for my 80’s gift!
I mentioned that I missed listening to the music from Dr. Demento on 97.1 KMET (I even met the great Doctor at the Orange County Fair in California, years ago and have a picture of us.) so she got me a CD. This particular CD is one of, if not, the earliest, with songs from the 1800’s. I definitely would not have purchased it, myself.
I will not say I am disappointed, although, I had most of my list focused on Friday-The-13th. There are always other exchanges, so, you never know.
I am having fun buying gifts for others and knowing they enjoy them. Just like giving food, etc.. bags to the homeless. I helped a man, today.. and it felt good.
There are different levels of friendship and it is a shame when someone drops.
I don’t have a lot of friends but I prefer quality over quantity, and want to surround myself with positive people who build me up verses cut me down.
That being said, let me share about the situation with K:
I have known K. for a while. I met her when I had my Smart car. K. worked at the repair shop I took her to. Anyway, I have had problems with K in the past. She went to see Donny and Marie with me a few years ago and almost ruined it by going on about how she really didn’t care for Donny, then making fun of me when I was nervous about meeting him, She came over and kept picking at my cat because the cat doesn’t like her, She got annoyed when we were on the phone because I received a package and was excited to open it, saying, “Okay, I guess our conversation isn’t that important.”etc..
I think the final hit came yesterday. We were catching up via phone and K asked what I have been doing. I told her about the Secret Santa Exchanges and she goes, “Secret Santa? I thought that was only at Christmas?”. When I explained about the themed exchanges during the year; she said sarcastically, “Oh great. Now I will have to hear about that all year.”. I said, “No, I won’t talk about it with you but you asked what I have been doing.”
That hurt because if you are a friend, you should at least listen even if it isn’t something you are interested in.
I am realizing what a selfish, condescending and rude person, K is. I have decided not to call her anymore and hopefully the friendship will fade away.
Growing up, my mother..and maybe yours too…had a Gift Shelf or closet where she kept miscellaneous gifts she had bought, won or received that were useless to her. She is the one who taught me how to Regift.
A Regift is basically taking a gift someone gave you that you can’t use and gifting it to another person.
There are a few things to be aware of when doing this. You need to be careful not to offend the original gifter, as well as, don’t get caught and put yourself in a bad position.
Here’s what I do:
Say I receive a vase from K. It’s totally not me since I am not into flowers. So, I put it aside with a label ‘From K’. Christmas comes around and I think Hey, Jen likes flowers. She might like this vase. But, I need to consider; Does Jen know K? Do they both attend my church? Is there a chance their paths will cross? If the answers are No, I can give Jen the vase. Otherwise, I need to get her something else.
I also keep this information in a paper file. Also, be sure to check all wrapping for tags. Be sure the original gifters name is nowhere to be found.
Now, I have a friend who does not know how to Regift. She will give me a gift and after I open it and exclaim over it, thank her,etc..she’ll say “So and so gave it to me and I figured you would like it.”. Don’t Do That! There is no reason to reveal the information. That’s tacky. If I asked where you got it, it’s better to say, “I don’t remember.”.
As a last bit of advice, if the rules are to hard or time-consuming; Don’t Regift. I am sure a local thrift store would be thankful for your donation.
My topic is Christmas since it’s my favorite Holiday. But, first, an update:
Today marks a week since I lost my beautiful Puma due to Liver Failure. She was 16.
She was my beautiful, Bengal. Even though, I have had to do this with now 7 animals, I am having a hard time. Why is it we can let animals go; when it’s illegal for humans? Yes, Puma was suffering a bit, but if you’re elderly relative was suffering, you can’t legally make that decision. And on this depressing note, let’s get on with our topic of Christmas Parties:
Yeah, Super bad segway. Anyway…
I have been to a few Parties at Christmas. The work Parties which usually has dinner, dancing and raffle prizes, the church Parties for children and adults, and and of course the family and friends gatherings which are technically, Parties.
I remember the day after attending a work Party, I was in the elevator with a hangover and some girls were talking, loudly. I was like “Shhh” and they go, “Oh my God, you went to the Party?”. I’m like, “Yes, and now I have a headache.”. Then they go, “Wow, that’s so cool, we thought…”. I go, “What? That I’m a total Prude and never drink?”. and they go, “Well, Yeah.”. That was over 20 years ago, but, still…. I wonder if that is still the attitude of most people when it comes to fitting in…but, I digress. I love to dress up for Parties. I don’t care if everyone else wears jeans. A Party is a celebration.. especially at Christmas. Most Parties are enjoyable, but, rarely without drama.
Please share about a Party you attended. It could be a strange reaction like mine, a drama moment, or just about some of the foods you ate. What do you consider a Party?
Tomorrow is Q, and surprisingly, I think I know where I am going with it. Any guesses?
Today’s post is about one of the negative aspects or views of Christmas.
A lot of people look at Christmas time as an Obligation. I have to get together with family, put up the tree, cook Christmas dinner, buy presents for those people I don’t talk to all year, etc.. But, Christmas should not be seen as such.
In the Bible, it says, “God loves a cheerful giver.” and I believe Christmas should be celebrated, cheerfully. If it doesn’t bring you joy, don’t do it!
You should not feel Obligated to share the Holiday with those you don’t want to, and definitely don’t spend money on those you don’t care about. If someone gives you a gift, accept it, graciously, and move on.
Christmas isn’t about putting up the tree or decorating the house; unless that’s something you enjoy. Remember, the real meaning of Christmas and don’t let all the other stuff become an Obligation.
We’ve all heard that Santa lives at The North Pole, but, does he?
The North Pole is the northernmost part of the earth lying diametrically opposite The South Pole. There is no land, there. It’s all ice floating at the top of the Arctic Ocean. Animals live there, though; including Polar Bears, Seal, Walrus, Arctic Fox and Reindeer!
The closest City to The North Pole is Logyearbyn/Svalbard, Norway which is halfway between Norway and The North Pole. It is an ancient, mining city and the administrative capital of the archipelago and it’s dedicated to research, education and tourism. It has 2,000 inhabitants with 50 nationalities. There are two main streets, hotels, sports stores and a supermarket. There are also 3,000 Polar Bear so there is high risk for attack. This area is one of the most protected territories in the world, and almost everybody owns a snowmobile.
There is another North Pole, city in Alaska. This one has Christmas year round. Christmas decorations, a store called Santa’s House, streets with names of Kris Kringle Drive and Mistletoe Lane. Nearby is the Chen Lake Recreation Area with beaches, nature trails and picnic areas.
So, I’m thinking, Santa may actually live at The North Pole or at least somewhere near it, but, not the actual one, we know.
Although, I’ll bet that’s where the reindeer stay during the off season; especially Rudolph, as The North Pole experiences total darkness from October to March.
