‘Bitter Is The New Black’ by Jen Lancaster..A Book Review

Okay, This is my opinion on this book. If you are the actual Author or know her, I am in no way trying to offend. I am only a small fish in a large pond with her own views, after reading.

That being said;

“Bitter Is The New Black” is supposed to be a Memoir. Supposedly, it is fact and fiction mixed regarding the Author and how she began her writing career.

However,

If you have ever read any of the books in the , Confessions Of A Shopaholic’ by Sophia Kinsella, you will know it is about a girl with a shopping problem who receives letters from creditors and her creative ways of dealing with them. The situations she gets in are quite amusing.

‘Bitter Is The New Black’ and Jen’s situations are not quite as amusing as they are pretty much copied from the Confessions series with the exception of using email instead of actual letter writing. The topics and situations are a tad different, but the writing style is almost exact, taking the humor away and making one wonder

Does Jen know Sophia Kinsella and did she get permission to write this way?

I may not have written a book series (but have written a book on a self-publishing site) but, I know what plagiarism is and also a fine line, when I read it.

I prefer books written written by oneself in their own style

Apple Prompt

The Prompt or word of the week at Confusing Middle is Apple. Before I get to it, why don’t you check out the Blog? It’s very interesting and fun. Tell him, Venus sent you. Then, Come Back!

As most of you know, I love to read. Mainly True Stories but a few Fiction Series, as well. The-Flowers-In-The Attic series is one of my favorites. For those of you who don’t know, it’s about 4 children who live in the attic of their Grandparents house and how they escape..or not..but, the books go further to afterwards and when the children grow up and have families of their own. ….What the heck does this have to do with Apples?..I’m glad you asked. Well, actually I am getting there….. In one of the books, a child gets a puppy and names it ‘Apple’! That’s the first thing that came to my mind when I read the Prompt. No, I am not going to tell you what happens to Apple or the children in later years. You need to read the books.

I’ve been sick today and almost went to the hospital. Okay, No, I just really considered it. It is mainly bronchial but with a sore throat, sinus and a terrible headache that wouldn’t quit. But, it finally did, and I took Mucinex, which I think helped a bit. Oh well..I was just thinking that I haven’t been sick in a while and it’s not like I had major (or any) plans this weekend.

Oh, and in case I forgot. Look what came yesterday!

I think it’s the most expensive pillow I have ever had. It’s Sealy with soft, Memory Foam on one side and Firm on the other. I think they call it ‘Alternative Memory Foam”.

Dull Day

The weather was blah and so was I.

Had a long talk with my Realtor. There is seriously Nothing out there in my price range! However, the eviction ban is lifting starting tomorrow, I believe..so…

Something may open next week in the park where Cin lives for under $500. It would be super small, but better than a hotel, for a while. I am also considering an apartment for a year or so..but, even those are super high!

I know I said I wasn’t going to stress. But, I am Human so I do, anyway.

Also finished a book today and had a Migraine. Figured I would get one after reading like 3 hours straight. Maybe, I will do a review on it, sometime. It was really good.

Not Phone Fun +

Cin and I are getting tired of updating our phones but..the previous phones barely worked. The reception was terrible with pretty much text only going through. So, we went back to Cricket who gave us each a Motorola Power instead. It’s nice, it’s a well-known brand and…it works!

Other than that, let me tell you about the book deal I got at Smiths today… Kroger, for some of you. While waiting for my prescription, I was perusing the books and saw a few with stickers reading ‘List Price $1.99’ so I picked one up. The register rang it up as $7.99 so the girl got the Manager. The Manager said she had never seen that sticker before, but they sold it to me for the sticker price of $1.99! Truthfully, I think an employee may have screwed up when marking some of the books, but, I am definitely not complaining.

Writers & Readers

Most Writers seem to also be avid Readers so I decided to update you on what I am reading now.

I am still reading ‘The Rise And Fall Of The Third Reich’ which is a tough one and cannot be read like a normal, easy, reading book since it is about the War! The chronological events of Hitler’s moves as well as the other countries, and how the war started and ended.

So, having run out of other reading material…as, most is packed…I went to Tra’s and got my ‘Wind In The Willows’ book back to reread, as well as, borrowed another book from her. She just got a few used books from someone else… Anyway, today, I started reading ‘Mark Twain A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur’s Court’.

I know I should be writing more, as, I have stories started, but I am really hoping to have an office space set up to help with that, in the near future. I just can’t seem to focus on it, now.

So, let’s hear your book updates at the moment, if you are Readers as well as Writers.
