This Challenge is over so, I am closing out my coverage and thoughts on Christmas. But, before I do, Zzz is a Scrabble word to describe snoring and sleep.
Anyway, let’s end this, shall we?
Presents have been opened, food has been eaten and guests are gone. Time to box up the decorations and take down the lights and tree until next year. If you went on a trip, you have returned and it’s back to normal life. If you stayed home, it’s once again time to clean before resuming your daily schedule. Some people look forward to going back to work after their Winter break.
All is quiet, now and you need a nap. You deserve it. Good-Night. Zzz.
And tomorrow is back to my True Life Blog on Monday through Saturday’s. I hope you have enjoyed this and look forward to doing it again next year. I wonder what my topic should be? Maybe, Halloween…..
Are you ready to learn how to play a cool, party game?
This game has many names and many ways to play. One name for it is Yankee Swap and that’s how I am referring to it since we are on the letter Y. This game is not only played at Christmas, but can be played at other occasions, too.
Here is how I/you/most people play:
Get a group together and have each person bring a wrapped gift. Set a budget or bring something from home.. this is where you can get rule creative. When the person arrives, put the gift on the table and give the person a number. Don’t number the gifts. Once everyone has arrived and has numbers, the game can start. The amount of gifts will equal the amount of people, unless you bring extra.. just in case. Person 1 picks their gift and opens it. Yay, it’s a clock!..No, it does not have to be a clock. It probably won’t be. Let’s not get overly literal, here… 2nd person gets called, they can take the clock…or whatever it is… or open a new gift. If they take the clock…or whatever it is…, Person 1 opens a new gift..and so on .until all gifts are off the table. Gifts can be swapped 3x and once you have had a gift in your hands, you can’t get it back.
Some people don’t like this game, but, I think it’s fun! We played it at my Wedding Shower, though and my relatives were holding on to everything so when my turn came, I turned to my new Aunt and said, “I love you Aunt Jod, but I really love your candle.” and took it; thereby causing her to Swap. My mother got annoyed saying I was terrible and should not have done that because I was the Bride; but, that’s how you play the game!
Usually, you get some funny and some serious gifts, which is what makes it even more fun. At my church Swap, someone even brought a Betta Fish with bowl and food.
So, now you have a new party game to try! I hope you play it, sometime and find it fun.
And tomorrow is Z. The last letter of the alphabet. Endings always make me sad.
But, don’t worry, I have come up with tomorrow’s word, and will do this again next year.
This might be short and to the point, but … The term is Christmas not Xmas.
Xmas is a slang term for those who don’t believe, don’t care, and/or are to lazy to write or say the entire word. I haven’t heard of a slang term for Easter, although, Thanksgiving can be “Turkey Day”. There’s a reason we say ‘Keep Christ in Christmas’. It isn’t all the religious meaning. It’s also the fact we hate the term ‘Xmas’ so, please stop!
*Had COVID #2 vaccine last Monday… Moderna.. and finally feeling better. Although, worn out now after my walk. It was more of a flu this time with chills. Got lots of sleep and drank a lot of fluids, plus, might take a nap, now.
Tomorrow is Y and I am going to teach you all how to play a Christmas game! You might know it. Some people hate it, while others, like me, think it’s fun.
Christmas can be extremely stressfull, as mentioned previously. So, we need to be Understanding when parents, relatives or even strangers lash out. Not everyone gets to experience a peaceful, quiet, Christmas. Some people are homeless and others have to work. It’s hard to have that Holiday spirit.
When it comes to Underwear; Please remember what a terrible gift that is.
As a young adult, my sister gave me Underwear for Christmas one year. I am sure they were pretty, but, they were opened in front of the entire family, and I got super embarrassed. If you or your significant other want to get each other Underwear or Laungerie, that’s different. But, keep in mind, when and where the gift will be opened.
Monday is V and we have almost finished.
Monday morning is my 2nd Covid vaccine and I pray I don’t have side effects. Just know that if I miss a day or so due to sickness, I will still finish this challenge… although it might be a little late.
Planning for and celebrating Christmas can take a lot of Time.
Sending out Christmas cards, Shopping, Getting gifts delivered on Time, cleaning the house for visitors, decorating for the season, cooking or setting your schedule for guests, partying or traveling..if that’s your thing…The list seems endless. Some people get stressed, just thinking about it.
Just remember to take care of yourself during this Time, and don’t forget the real reason for the season.
This may have been short, but, adding a quick life, update:
Picked up Puma, yesterday..So to speak, I know it’s her Ashes…The box is still in the bag along with the weird picture frame with footprint, tacky poem, and piece of her fur. I didn’t want a footprint. It’s morbid. I would rather they make those when they are alive.
Anyway, been feeling weird. Having a hard time at the idea of Euthanasia for animals and not for people. Also, not ready to move the box/bag to be packed in a moving box or trunk in the dark. I know she is gone.. and Yes, I do believe Animals have souls and go to Heaven!…but, my mind is just off kilter right now, and I can’t deal.
My remaining cats miss her, as well; especially Monkey, as they were best friends.
Please, keep us in your prayers while we adjust.
And tomorrow is the letter, U. You will have no idea where I will go with that….see what I did there?.. because it is a bit out there… but still related to Christmas
I love Secret Santa, but not when people can’t keep it a secret. A lot of different places do it…the office, families and even Reddit.com.
The principle is this;
You put the names of all participants in a box, hat, whatever, set a price limit and have everyone fill a paper with their name, likes, dislikes, etc…then draw a name, individually. They cannot get themselves. Give them a date for the reveal.
Reddit.com has the largest Secret Santa in the world on the internet. You sign up for Reddits.gifts. Fill out a form, wait till Matching Day when you are randomly matched, get your gift sent out by a specific date and post a picture of whatever you receive. Reddit has Secret Santa Exchanges every few months with different themes like Cookbooks,Autos,80’s,Plants,etc… There is bound to be something you are interested in. But, the Christmas one is the largest with the most participants.
Forgive me since this was more factual then fun. I picked up Pumas’ ashes today and am a bit stressed so a Migraine has started. Going down with pain meds in a few. I put the box on the shelf in the bag for now as, I just can’t deal. Maybe, when I move, I will find somewhere to put her.
Yes, my mind is back on that despite not doing well at saving money. The house… okay, trailer…is being painted outside, next month.
My topic is Christmas since it’s my favorite Holiday. But, first, an update:
Today marks a week since I lost my beautiful Puma due to Liver Failure. She was 16.
She was my beautiful, Bengal. Even though, I have had to do this with now 7 animals, I am having a hard time. Why is it we can let animals go; when it’s illegal for humans? Yes, Puma was suffering a bit, but if you’re elderly relative was suffering, you can’t legally make that decision. And on this depressing note, let’s get on with our topic of Christmas Parties:
Yeah, Super bad segway. Anyway…
I have been to a few Parties at Christmas. The work Parties which usually has dinner, dancing and raffle prizes, the church Parties for children and adults, and and of course the family and friends gatherings which are technically, Parties.
I remember the day after attending a work Party, I was in the elevator with a hangover and some girls were talking, loudly. I was like “Shhh” and they go, “Oh my God, you went to the Party?”. I’m like, “Yes, and now I have a headache.”. Then they go, “Wow, that’s so cool, we thought…”. I go, “What? That I’m a total Prude and never drink?”. and they go, “Well, Yeah.”. That was over 20 years ago, but, still…. I wonder if that is still the attitude of most people when it comes to fitting in…but, I digress. I love to dress up for Parties. I don’t care if everyone else wears jeans. A Party is a celebration.. especially at Christmas. Most Parties are enjoyable, but, rarely without drama.
Please share about a Party you attended. It could be a strange reaction like mine, a drama moment, or just about some of the foods you ate. What do you consider a Party?
Tomorrow is Q, and surprisingly, I think I know where I am going with it. Any guesses?
Today’s post is about one of the negative aspects or views of Christmas.
A lot of people look at Christmas time as an Obligation. I have to get together with family, put up the tree, cook Christmas dinner, buy presents for those people I don’t talk to all year, etc.. But, Christmas should not be seen as such.
In the Bible, it says, “God loves a cheerful giver.” and I believe Christmas should be celebrated, cheerfully. If it doesn’t bring you joy, don’t do it!
You should not feel Obligated to share the Holiday with those you don’t want to, and definitely don’t spend money on those you don’t care about. If someone gives you a gift, accept it, graciously, and move on.
Christmas isn’t about putting up the tree or decorating the house; unless that’s something you enjoy. Remember, the real meaning of Christmas and don’t let all the other stuff become an Obligation.
There is a Magic in the air at Christmas! I can feel it.
Maybe it’s the sense of hope, laughter, excitement and wonder. Maybe, it’s a child experiencing their first Christmas, a lover proposing, friends and relatives visiting from afar, receiving or giving that perfect gift, experiencing your first snowfall, or maybe it’s as simple as being off work for the holiday and not having to get out of your pajamas. Whatever it is, I have experienced it and I experience it, in different ways every year at Christmas time.
I hope that after you read this challenge, you will experience the Magic of Christmas, and maybe look at it, in a way you never have, before.
Tomorrow is N,and I was thinking; we might take a trip to a place that starts with that letter. I’m told it’s pretty cold there, so pack some warm clothing…and I’ll see you, then.
We can thank Edward Hibbard Johnson for the invention of Christmas Lights on a string as he wanted to put Lights on a tree but candles were to dangerous. Lights are not only a Christian tradition; reminding you of the star that the Wise Men followed but they also represent the other nightly stars. I love Christmas Lights.
Heck, I simply love Lights, period. That’s one thing I love about Las Vegas. The lights, everywhere. It is so very pretty here at night.
*It was a rough morning… especially at feeding time. I just miss Puma watching me as I dish out the cat food, while waiting patiently. She had the most, beautiful, gold eyes. I wish this pain would go away fast, but, it’s only been 2 days. I did get dressed today so my BFF and I could FaceTime. It’s the little accomplishments and taking things one day at a time.
